Orthodontic emergencies are rare but can be concerning. If you experience severe pain or encounter a problematic appliance issue, don’t hesitate to contact our office immediately. We prioritize your comfort and will schedule an appointment promptly to address the problem.

In some cases, you may be able to manage minor issues temporarily until your appointment. For instance, if a piece is loose, store it safely and bring it to your next visit. For poking wires or other discomforts, applying soft wax can provide relief. Additionally, if a wire has shifted out of place, you can gently guide it back into position using tweezers or floss.

Loose Appliance: Applying wax can provide temporary comfort and prevent irritation if an appliance is loose.

Loose Bracket: If a bracket or band is still attached to the wire, it’s best to leave it in place and use wax for additional comfort. However, if it’s loose, save it and bring it to your appointment.

Loose Wire: Attempt to reposition the wire gently using tweezers or floss. If necessary, you can clip the wire behind the last securely fastened tooth and cover the end with wax for temporary relief.

Poking Wire: If a wire is poking, you can push it down using a pencil eraser or apply wax to alleviate discomfort. It’s crucial to address any sharp or protruding wires promptly to prevent injury to your mouth.
